A few weeks ago I called out for questions for Mena and here are her answers! She covers everything from fashion to her projects to her work with AMREF to the next president! Again a BIG thank you to Mena for taking her time to answer these! It’s truly wonderful that she cares about her fans and can reach out to us like this
********
1. You always look amazing on and off the red carpet! Who are your favorite designers at the moment? From April
It’s hard for me to say! there are soo many that I love! I would have to say, though, that recently I am in love with Catherine Malandrino, always my Burberry Prorsum, Valentino, Alice + Olivia, Diesel, Paige Denim, Christian Laboutin, Meghan, Missoni, Theory…etc.
2. What are your favorite fashion trends or must have’s at the moment? From April
I’m really into wearing a cool vest with a tshirt and some fabulous jeans along with my Christian Laboutin pumps!
3. What is your favorite red carpet looks you’ve done? From April
Hmmm….I’d have to say my yellow Missoni dress that I wore to the SAG awards like a year or so ago
4. Do you have any fashion/beauty tips you’d love to share? From April
I’m all about nutrition and believe that you are what you eat, so I try to eat and live a very healthy lifestyle. Lots of water and no drugs, man! These are the best beauty tips i could ever give! :^)
5. Who are you supporting for President this year? From T.G
T.G.! I’ve really been awful! I was touring in Africa during so much of the campaigning and missed a lot of the coverage. I am a bad citizen in the sense that I believe that i should have followed it all a bit more, but I can tell you that I voted for Obama during the California primaries, and probably will continue to do so, if he’s a candidate.
6. You are a very pretty lady with an amazing figure. Do you have a workout regimen? If so, what is it? From Jay
HI Jay! Well, first, I try to eat healthy and then combine that with hiking, spinning, and yoga, as well as working out at the gym to get my weight training in. These I feel work best for me.
7. I know you enjoy making small films.. but they never make it to my local theatres. Any bigger budget films on the way? From Virginia
Virginia..I know! I hear ya! I am pursuing all kinds of material, but always want to stay true to my heart and what I believe in doing and working on. One of the downsides to this, is that most of the material that I TRUELY respond to happens to be more in the independent field. There are so many factors that go into the whole process for me, but trust me, I am working and trying the best I can. I am hoping that the films Mysteries of Pittsburgh and Garden of Eden reach out to more across that country!
8. How many tattoos do you have and where are they? Any African/tribal ones? Do you plan on getting any others? From Sam
I have three, 2 on my back and one near my breastbone. No Africian/Tribal ones. Have thought about it! It can become quite addicting!
9. How many piercings do you have and where? From Sam
I used to have a lot in my ears, like 6 and 5 on each side, but now I just have my belly pierced-felt I’d look too crazy with all my piercings in my ears after shaving my head!! :^) but, I might put some back in later! That’s the good thing about piercings, you can put them in or take them out whenever :^)
10. Do you plan on updating your MySpace page soon? From Sam
You know, i’m so bad with the damn thing! :^) I went online one night and got stuck for a couple hours, and was proud of my improvements, but for the most part, i’m pretty computer UNsavvy! I will try and do more, and my man is trying to get me to create my own website. Many thanx to April for all her good work! You really help me a lot!
11. I think it was great that you went to Africa as an ambassador for AMREF, do you have any story’s or thoughts you could share about the trip and how it’s impacted you? From Laura
Hi Laura. Oh, it was such a wonderful trip and I am MORE than honored to be a part of AMREF. It will be a lifelong duty for me, and i’m just so glad to be a part of an organization that is so well respected. Everyone that we travelled with and met is wonderful. I feel that being a part of AMREF has finally given me real purpose in my life.
Travelling to Africa and experiencing the things that I did has certainlyhelped me to put into perspetive my life more than ever before. I believe in travelling so much and recommend it to anyone. I feel it’s important for us to see how others live. there are so many things that we take for
granted.
It’s been a bit of a shock coming back to America in general, but especially Hollywood and being a part of the “ratrace” again. I see all these bullshit magazines with celebrities and their “problems”. Is it trendy now to go to rehab?! Why do “we” let our lives be taken over? We ALL, as individuals can do so much and give back to the world in many ways, and it saddens me to see people just throw all their potential away. Not knowing what car to drive during your day, or what shoe goes best, but putting coke up your nose?! These are not real problematic situations.
I’ve SEEN what problems are really like. Not having a toilet or water to drink everyday or at ALL is a problem! Knowing that you have 3 kids and just found out that you have AIDS is a problem! Watching your child die or suffer malnutrition from PREVENTABLE diseases is a problem!
We need to get our priorities in place and unite to be the best we can be. I find SUCH inspiration in the work that I do for AMREF and only hope to share that with others and I appreciate your interest in the causes that mean SO much to me!
12. How old were you when you did your print ad for Oscar de la Renta? From April
Oscar de la Renta was when i was 13!

I’m not one to try to talk or keep up on celebs but I had to tell you this. I have had several friends of mine a while back talk about you and how they where attracted to you but I just didn’t see what they saw, although I did like your movies. But today I watched a movie called Day of the Dead. I just have to say I have come around. You made that uniform (with the hat) look sexy, and if you where not in that movie, it wouldn’t be the same. That’s saying a lot because I get a kick out of those cheese zombie movies. Just thought I would tell you that I understand what they saw with you unmistakable beauty and I enjoy your work. Good luck in the future.
