Trauma director Marc Evans answered that question at the Trauma Press Conference on August 24, 2004 in London.
[MARC EVANS] WHY WAS MENA SUVARI CAST AS CHARLOTTE?
Just her quality, her otherness. We wanted this character to be a potential angel in Ben’s life and she’s a well-meaning neighbour, beautiful and different. Mena has all those things in spades, but she also has a dark streak and is interested in this kind of material. She’s great to work with. And as for the American thing, the part wasn’t written as an American, but when she said she was interested I saw no reason to make her English and in some ways it was an advantage, as she has to talk about crystals and alternative medicine, and in a funny sort of way that seems to come more easily from an American character than perhaps an English one. It seemed to sit very easily with her. (Found at Firth.com)
ComingSoon.net reports that Mena Suvari will star in Tony Scott’s Domino opposite Keira Knightley, says The Hollywood Reporter. Filming on the New Line project will take place in Los Angeles and Las Vegas and is starting on Monday.
Domino tells the real-life story of Domino Harvey, daughter of actor Laurence Harvey, who starred in the original version of The Manchurian Candidate. She ditched a career as a Ford model to become a bounty hunter.
Suvari will play a producer’s assistant in the film, written by writer/director Richard Kelly.
Mena is featured on the cover of ‘People’ here in Oz. It’s a men’s magazine - but I’m off to buy it this week! Anyway, so I’ve read it has some (most likely trashy) article about Mena on ‘Six Feet Under’ - plus a poster & bio page with about 30 pics - here’s hoping to some new pics! Also - I wanted to ask - what do you all think of maybe starting a mailing list/yahoo group we’re we all can share pics, news etc. Let me know!
Just some Mena UK alerts I’ve found from eBay. 1/ ‘The Ticket’ magazine supplement with The Daily Mirror as a Mena article in it from September 17 -23. and 2/ Now magazine, September 2nd. It has a 2 page interview & 1 full page photo & 5 small photos. I have bought them from eBay - but they have to get shipped to me, so I should have scans in a few weeks. If you in the UK - see if you can find them - I’m sure they’d be great reads!
Cheerleader, drug addict, ‘angel’ next door: Mena Suvari’s played them all. Andrew Gumbel meets a Hollywood risk-taker
Mena Suvari has a fine, full-lipped mouth, which was certainly one reason why Marc Evans, the director of the new psychological horror film Trauma, decided to show it painted throughout with shiny blood-red lipstick. Maybe it was her mouth, too, that induced him to have someone thrust a large spider between her character’s lips.
A mean trick to play on a pleasant young actress, I couldn’t help thinking as I met up with Suvari at a Zen tea house in West Hollywood. She was polite, impeccably turned out in designer jeans and an embroidered cotton shirt, and poised in a way that did not immediately suggest a ready familiarity with hairy arachnids shoved under her tongue. So, naturally, I had to ask her about it. Continue reading ‘Mena Suvari: Take a chance on me’
Mena attened a private ‘Enchanted Garden Party’ for Sass & Bide’s Spring/Summer 2005 Collection on September 15, 2004 at a private residence Hancock Park, California. Sass & Bide are amazing Australian designers and I hope Mena picked up some of there designs and will be wearing them in the future! She posed with pics with the girls of Sass & bide as well as with a African Eagle Owl. Photos at Wireimage.
SplashNews has some very small thumbnail view pics of Mena in a wedding dress as she portrays ‘Annie’ for the Graduate film ‘Otherwise Engaged’ starring Jennifer Aniston & Kevin Costner (to name a few!) on September 14th in Pasadena.
Trauma was released today in the UK. The official Trauma website is now up and running - it’s freaky, yet very cool. Check it out! MyMovies.net has several clips from the movie and interviews with Colin Firth and Mena on their website here - again very cool things. According to Firth.com, Trauma will screen at 9.30pm on the 17th & 18th of this month (today & tomorrow!) at the Toronto Film Festival. I found a poster for Trauma - it’s a pity it doesnt feature Mena :-/
So what do ya’ll think? Please excuse any 404’s or pages that look funny while I’m changing the layout pages. Comment’s most welcome!
Ah not too much is happening at the moment - I’ve added some scans tho - There is Nylon from 2000 sometime. The article is more about Amy Heckerling (Loser director), but it some some parts with Mena (and Jason Biggs). There is Mena’s June 2000 Movieline article and scans from the German magazine MAX (January 2000) - no article, just some pics, she was #1 hottest for 1999/2000. I’m thinking about a new layout… what do you all think? I’ll add some more scans and caps soon! So keep looking!
