According to The Hollywood Reporter Mena Suvari is joining the cast of MGM’s “Beauty Shop” alongside Djimon Hounsou, Alicia Silverstone and Queen Latifah. “Honey’s” Bille Woodruff directs.
Suvari will play Joanne, an upper-crust opinionated socialite, in the “Barbershop” spinoff. The story revolves around a beauty shop run by Gina (Queen Latifah) where there’s more interest in the talk than the haircuts. Silverstone plays the sole white staffer, while Hounsou plays the leading man. Set to begin shooting next month, “Beauty Shop” is being produced by Queen Latifah, her producing partner Shakim Compere, Mandeville’s David Hoberman and State Street partners Robert Teitel and George Tillman. Mandeville president of production Todd Lieberman and CubeVision’s Ice Cube and Matt Alvarez are executive producing. Elizabeth Cantillon is overseeing for the studio.
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 27 — Yesterday at Shriners Hospitals for Children-Los Angeles, Hollywood Video founder, CEO and chairman Mark Wattles unveiled the company’s new Hollywood Video Starlight Site(TM), a state-of-the-art teen lounge created in partnership with the Starlight Children’s Foundation. Wattles was joined by Starlight Children’s Foundation CA*AZ*NV board president Dan Bennett and celebrities Mena Suvari, Fred TV’s Fred Medill and the Foundation’s mascot, Starry, to commemorate the unveiling of the second Hollywood Video Starlight Site. After the grand opening festivities, children christened the space with a special pre-release screening of “Agent Cody Banks 2: Destination London” courtesy of MGM. The site was made possible by Hollywood Video’s commitment to donate at least one million dollars to the Starlight Children’s Foundation over four years.
